ཡ་རབས། མ་རབས།

ya rabs, ma rabs:

The Tibetan word ya rabs means something like “noble, righteous, virtuous, upright, decent,” whereas ma rabs something like “ignoble, deceitful, non-virtuous, crooked, indecent.” Their etymologies, however, according to dGe-’dun-chos-’phel are said to be “of high (ya) lineage/pedegree (rabs)” and “of low (ma) lineage/pedegree (rabs).” See dGe chos gsung ’bum (vol. 5, p. 78).
