dGe-chos points out that there are several names of places linked with mDo-smad in Eastern Tibet which end in chu. It has been suggested that chu is (derived from) Chinese but he assumes that it  is genuine Tibetan. According to him many place names in Tibet have chu because Tibet is the source of major rivers. Here are some examples that he provides (dGe.chos-3: 217–218):

1. Klu-chu
2. rDza-chu
3. Ka-chu
4. Tho-chu
5. Si-chu
6. ….
