རི་བོང་།

ri bong:

Some words are so common and their meaning so obvious that one would not think of their etymologies. One such word is ri bong, the Tibetan word for “hare” or “rabbit.” But believe it or not ri bong is said to literally mean “mountain/hill ass/donkey.”Cf. “Bergesel” (Hahn 1985: 332).
