Jäschke provides the meaning of zhe gcod pa’i tshig as “slanderous words,” and adds that “it is not clear in point of etymology.” Perhaps its etymology should be something like “words that cut (or cause an incision in) a respectable person’s mind or heart”? There may be better solution than this.
