Jäschke gives the meaning gong dpyad pa as “to apprize” or “to fix a prize.” He notes that often also the orthography gong bcad pa occurs but adds that it is “inconsistent with etymology.” Perhaps gong gcod pa may be etymologised as “to cut (out) or exact a price” in the sense of “to strike a deal”?
