skar khung, dkar khung:
The (classical) Tibetan word for “window” is skar khung (and according to Jäschke also dkar khung). The etymology of skar khung would be “a hole (khung) [through which one can see] stars (skar [ma]).” And the etymology of dkar khung would be “a hole (khung) [through which] white (i.e. bright) [light] (dkar) [comes through].”
