The first statue to be made in Tibet is said to that of the “Eleven-Faced Avalokiteśvara” (sPyan-ras-gzigs-dbang-phyug-zhal-bcu-gcig-pa). See the Nyang ral cho ’byung (p. 239): kha ba can du sku bzhengs pa la de snga ba yin no ||. A story of its making can be found there.
