Colophon (following MHTL, no. 171878):

rang don tsam du gsang ba ’dus par yang ||
dga’ bar mi bgyid gzhan gyi don ’gyur na ||
mdos glud gto chog rnams kyang nyams len du ||
khyer pa theg chen chos lugs ma yin nam ||

Not taking pleasure even in Guhyasamāja [practice]
For one’s own benefit alone,
Practicing even mDos, Glud, and gTo [rituals]
If it turns out to benefit other [beings]; is this not the Mahāyāna religious tradition?

Wow! A beautiful idea in my view! The author of the verse is unknown to me.

  1. Yeah, wow! Sounds like whoever this person was she would approve of shamanism, or at least some shamanism.
Basically, Shamans are supposed to help people with their problems, so why not?

  2. @Dan, Why don't you put on your antler hat, rattle your drum and do your coming out by proclaiming to the world "I am a Shamanist!"

This reminds me of the end of Āryadeva's 'phags pa shes rab kyi pha rol tu phyin pa'i man ngag (Ārya-prajñāpāramitopadeśa) where the advice seems to be given, not to integrate Shamanist rituals in mainstream Mahāyāna, but to practice them with a Mahāyāna motivation.

  3. Dear Hr,

The antler horns sound veeery tempting. My those would sure look nice on anyone's head. I'll have to look up that text you mention. That's veeeery interesting.
